Tessa, we love your Instagram feed. Especially the amazing pastel colors aaaand your walls!! Funky, cool and fun :) What are some key considerations when designing a gallery wall in a space?
“Thank you! I love pastels, it all started with our vintage carpet. My husband really wanted a vintage carpet, normally, they come in dark blue en red. But we found a pastel-green and pink carpet. We adjusted the colors in our interior (for example the kitchen wall, refrigerator)
A gallery wall: I love to vary in size but also in shape! I think it’s a bit boring to use only rectangular prints, so I love to add some ceramic elements (ice cream and even an anatomic heart and tube of mayonnaise, both made of porcelain). If all the colors fit together, everything is possible!.“
How do you determine the right type of wallpaper for a specific room or space?
“I just fell in love with the wallpaper prints I bought for my house. Our house has very high ceilings so I chose large prints, I think it works better than a tiny flower print for example, that on the other side looks great in a smaller room, like our toilet.
You can find beautiful and unique prints at @binnenzoet , @photowall_sweden and @rebelwalls for example.“
What are some key principles to consider when mixing different styles of furniture in a room?
“I think it’s important to not only use new furniture but add some old secondhand items. I used soms vintage carpets and a confessional for example. Choose personal items, art and prints. Dare to stand out, don’t make it look like a showroom! Don’t take yourself and your interior too seriously.“
How can a child's room be designed to promote creativity, organization, and a sense of playfulness?
“In a child’s room: if you have space, make sure there’s plenty of room for storage. Children collect a lot! Like the wall full of Lego in Siem’s room. Choose big elements.
I love to use crates; a perfect place to store toys, and they look very nice and colorful. Choose, or let your child choose, a few colors (2-3) you want to use. A wallpaper is very easy to change. But I never let them choose a brand wallpaper (like Frozen or Cars). I just hate it! My daughter asked for a unicorn wallpaper, I did a very long search and found a very nice one from @majvillan we both like it a lot!“
Your interior decor is amazing! Is there any online shops you can recommend?
