Puk, we totally love your style and DIY designs you share on Instagram. What object do you think is an easy “do it yourself” and can’t be missed?

“I think upholstering a stool like FROSTA from IKEA is a simple DIY that everyone with a staple gun can do – and it’s a quick makeover if you need change. There’s a DIY guide on my Instagram page.”

Can you tell us your top tips - when it comes to colored furniture?

“Go for it! Don't be afraid to choose furniture with colors you love! Just make sure they complement or contrast nicely with the room's color scheme. If you like colors, I promise you, it will make you happy.

Start easy with colorful accessories like pillows, knick-knacks or rugs to experiment before going all in. Even flowers or fruit can help inspire your color choices. For example, I chose the color of our green table because of a pear. Yes, true story.”

What are the first steps when someone wants to redecoration a room, house or apartment?

“Look at the things you already have and will reuse, and then build a mood board around them. I look in magazines, on Instagram and on Pinterest for inspiring interiors, DIYs and color combos. Then I create a mood board from that inspiration – or mood boards; I usually make different directions and color schemes before deciding on a direction.

Today I use Canva for mood boards, and it’s super easy and intuitive to use. I usually start with my base, like the furniture and dominant things I have to use, and then add furniture, accessories, art and colors from there. But sometimes redecoration doesn’t have to be more than moving furniture and accessories around. Try to empty the room and start over – this alone can work wonders. ”

Let's talk again about colors, how many colors would you use as a base and why?

“I have no rules. I know there are some rules like the 70-20-10, but I’m no good at calculating, and it drains my creative energy to follow things like that. That being said, what often happens for me is contrasts. Hot vs cold. Vibrant vs calm. And usually, less of the vibrant and more of the calm to give that pop of color effect that makes things playful.”

Where do you get your cool decor accessories like ceramics, vases, candles?

“I have many different go-to shops, both off- and online, and I also love the small pre-loved shops on Instagram. You can find a curated list of my favourite interior shops in Copenhagen on my Instagram page.

We looove your variation of chairs - how do you choose chairs, especially if someone wants to play around with shapes and colors?

“I have a weakness for chairs that have a unique and sculptural design. Vibrant and tactile chairs too.

A mix of different chairs around our table creates a casual and charming atmosphere in our home, which I love. So the mix is very intentional and purposefully curated.”

Making a creative space - what is important?

“Currently, my creative space is quite limited as we downsized from a larger living space to a 50 square meter apartment, but to highlight some key elements that make a difference:

  1. Esthetics are crucial. Choose furniture and decor that you love to look at.

  2. Colors influence your emotion. Add hues that brighten your day and lift your mood.

  3. Organize like Kondo. Clutter is no good for creativity (at least not mine).

  4. Surround yourself with inspiration. Objects. Pictures. Art. Whatever makes you tick. ”

The best way to keep small rooms clean, organized and cool?

“We have recently been through a downsizing exercise, selling a big chunk of our stuff (which was so liberating). That sure makes it easier to keep things tidy, but we still experience clutter build-up. It's like magic.

Our trick is to declutter regularly, get rid of anything we don't need, and ensure that everything has a place so it's easy to tidy. Multipurpose furniture, like our bookcase pedestal, is also a way to minimize and simplify.”

Are you following some interesting Instagram accounts for interior inspiration?

“Oh yes, a lot. Super hard to highlight just a few, but @celinehallas, @alfredbramsen, @juliewp and @prosenkilde have been on my Favorite list for a long time.”
